Re: Position Camshaft Unknown P1335 P407 V6
In short, the "leaking valve story" is as follows.
My C5 V6 is from august 2007, so less than 3 years old now. At 135 kkm I suddely had a major oilleak, I lost some 2 liters in less than 8 km.
It turned out being the rear valve 1920 HE, make Delphi , which has been replaced.
After opening it I discovered the cause, which is wear of the aluminium tube inside the coil, see the pictures. This tube has a double function: it is a kind of bearing for the iron core of the colil, but at the same time it shall prevent the oil coming out.
And since the wall of the tube is only some 0,28 mm thick, by the wear it was reduced to less than 0,10 on a certain area, which was insufficient to withstand the oilpressure inside
In the meantime I have exchanged the second valve as well and opened it.
There I found that the wall thickness of the alu-tube at one area was reduced to 0,12 mm, so some 0,16 mm had already disappeared. So in the next 10000-20000 km this valve also would have broken, as I think.....
These green Delphi valves 1920 HE have been introduced on the ES9A V6 for the C5-II.
The ES9J4S used the grey valves 1920 AX, of which I am presently trying to find out its make. And hopefully I can grab one for further investigations.
My question to you: at what mileage did this happen to you?
And how much oil was spilled before you discovered it?
Regards,
JW
